Space Girl
Written by Helen Stanley and the Junior Youth Theatre
Mary Moon has a dream. Her father is missing and the adults are keeping secrets. She’s sure she’ll find him and solve the mystery if only she can get to the moon.
Based on a storytelling performance by LYT’s Artistic Director Helen Stanley, our Junior Youth Theatre first shared part of the play online in 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic. Since then, they have helped to develop the script and worked with the designer on the set & costume designs. In June 2023 they share its first full performance at LYT’s creative Hub.
Responding to the themes of the play, our two Devising Companies followed Space Girl with two short performances. Dreams and family relationships collided in Slumber, and space is reimagined as a snow globe in Crazy Misfits Unite.

Participants: Space Girl – 13 performers and 2 graduate creatives, Slumber – 15 performers and 2 graduate creatives, Crazy Misfits Unite – 14 performers and 2 graduate creatives. We also had a design and technical team of 6 young people who were taking part in our Backstage Theatre programme.
