Introduction to Backstage Theatre (Ages 13 – 17)
A short introductory project for anyone who wants to learn about the backstage roles that make theatre happen. No previous experience is necessary! We’ll explore lighting, sound, set design, costume, props, and stage management through a range of hands-on taster sessions, then you get the chance to practice your skills through a collaborative creative project.
Dates/Times:
– Taster Session – Monday 29th January, 5 – 7pm
– Half Term Intensive – Wednesday 14th – Friday 16th February 2024, 11am – 4pm

Backstage Theatre – Production Group (Ages 13 – 17)
A 10-week project for people interested in delving deeper into Backstage Theatre. Each week we explore a different aspect of technical theatre and production, introducing you to a wide range of roles, including lighting, sound, set design, costume, props, and stage management. You will have an opportunity to work with professional theatre technicians and designers, develop your skills, find out about careers in backstage theatre and potentially take part in a full scale production.

Monday evenings from 18th March – 20th May

Backstage Theatre Crew
Once you’ve taken part in a Backstage Theatre Production Group and/or completed a production with LYT, you’ll be able to join LYT’s Technical Crew. You’ll have the chance to gain more experience supporting backstage on productions as assistant stage managers, designers and technicians.

Production Arts Group
A weekly project for 14 – 18 year olds who have completed the Backstage Production Group and would like to develop their technical, design and production skills further through longer term projects and collaborations with the acting and devising groups. This group is for existing members only.
Dates/Times:
Monday evenings – summer 2024 – start date TBC.

How do I get involved?
To take part in a Backstage Theatre project you need to:
- Be aged between 12-18 and be keen to take part
- Live or learn in the London Borough of Lewisham
- Attend no other after school drama group
- Priority is given to those who attend state/free schools, academies or home schooling
